  • Re: agenda item 5, Sharon Bland noted that the 5 year strategic plan is updated every two years, and that therefore, EPPC could entertain proposals not included in it.
  • Linner Griffin presented status report of programs submitted last year to UNC-OP 

 

Actions:

  • Motion approved to accept minutes 9/14/05 as amended. Moved by Hodson, seconded by Griffin
  • Motion approved to change name of MS in Industrial Technology to MS in Technology Systems.  Moved by Hodson, seconded by Eason 
  • Motion approved to utilize a checklist format and not a flow chart for the Academic Program Development approval process.  Moved by Hodson, seconded by Weismiller
  • Motion approved to accept Undergraduate Degree Program Campus Approval Process Checklist with editorial changes.  (See addendum).  Moved by Hodson, seconded by Eason
  • Agenda item #6 was tabled until a future meeting.

Undergraduate Degree Program Campus Approval Process Checklist

Allow a minimum of twelve to eighteen months for the approval process.

 

 

Step I: Notification of Intent to Plan (NIP)

Allow a minimum of 6 months for campus process.

(Contact Office of Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Programs, if needed, for guidance.)

 

Date of Approval

    1.      Unit prepares NIP (Appendix A), Assessment of Readiness to Offer New Degree Program, and Academic Management Information Report

 

    2.      Unit reviews documents with Academic Program Development Collaborative Team

 

    3.      Unit seeks approval of NIP, Assessment of Readiness, and other documents from the following in the order specified

 

      a.   Curriculum committee of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      b.   Voting faculty of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      c.   Chairperson/director of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      d.   Curriculum committee of the college in which program will be housed

 

      e.   Dean of the college in which the program will be housed, if applicable

 

      f.    VC for Academic Affairs or Health Sciences, as appropriate

 

    4.      Unit submits NIP to Academic Council and Educational Policies and Planning Committee

 

    5.      Unit collaborates with Office of Academic Programs to prepare final copy of NIP for Chancellor consideration.  Following Chancellor approval and at least 6 months prior to proposed establishment date, Office of Academic Programs electronically files the NIP with UNC-OP

 

 

Step II: Program Requirements

(Process may begin immediately upon submission of NIP to UNC-OP.)

 

Date of Approval

1.      Unit develops degree requirements and new course proposals

 

    2.      Unit reviews NIP, Assessment of Readiness, and other documents and seeks approval of requirements and courses from the following in the order specified

 

      a.   Curriculum committee of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      b.   Voting faculty of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      c.   Chairperson/director of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      d.   Curriculum committee of the college in which program will be housed

 

      e.   Dean of the college in which the program will be housed, if applicable

 

      f.    Code unit curriculum committees in each unit contributing new courses and Council on Teacher Education, where appropriate

 

          g.   University Curriculum Committee

 

          h.   Faculty Senate (per approval of UCC report to Faculty Senate)

 

          i.    Chancellor (per approval of FS minutes containing UCC report)

 

 

Step III: Request for Authorization to Establish A New Degree Program (RAE)

Allow a minimum of 6 months for campus process and 6 months for UNC-OP process.

(Degree requirements/courses must be approved prior to submission of RAE to UNC-OP. The RAE is submitted within 1 year of filing the NIP at UNC-OP, or an extension must be requested.)

 

Date of Approval

1.   Unit prepares RAE (App. C or App. D if same CIP as existing program)

 

    2.      Unit reviews RAE with Academic Program Development Collaborative Team

 

    3.      Unit reviews NIP, Assessment of Readiness, and other documents with, and seeks approval of, RAE from the following in the order specified

 

      a.   Curriculum committee of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      b.   Voting faculty of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      c.   Chairperson/director of dept/school in which program will be housed

 

      d.   Curriculum committee of the college in which program will be housed, if applicable

 

      e.   Dean of the college in which the program will be housed

 

      f.    VC for Academic Affairs or Health Sciences, as appropriate

 

    4.      Unit submits RAE to Academic Council and Educational Policies and Planning Committee

 

    5.      Unit collaborates with Office of Academic Programs to prepare final copy of RAE for Chancellor consideration.  Following Chancellor approval and at least 6 months prior to proposed establishment date, Office of Academic Programs submits the RAE to UNC-OP
