COMMITTEE:               Research/Creative Activity Grants

MEETING DATE:            24 March 1995

PERSON PRESIDING:        Mark Taggart

Description of action:  The report of the subcommittee to revise the 1996-97

proposal guidelines was presented and discussed.

After discussion, Allred moved that the subcommittee revise the proposal

guidelines to incorporate both the summer stipend and the project expense grant

into a single proposal.  Applicants will be eligible for an award every other

year.  The progress report for the last award must be available for review by

the committee before an additional application will be considered.  The

recommended maximum amount of non-salary project expenses will be raised to

$10,000.   Seconded by Felts.  Motion passed.

Additional discussion focused on whether applicants should be allowed to submit

reviews from colleagues at other institutions.  Tabrizi stated that committee

members cannot understand applications from people in technical areas like

mathematics.  Tabrizi moved that applicants be allowed to provide

substantiation of their work by colleagues at other institutions.

Specifically, in Item 5d, the motion was to remove the words "on campus".

Seconded by Walsh.  Motion failed.

The committee will meet again on Friday, April 7th, at 1:00 p.m.  The

subcommittee will meet before then to make changes as recommended above.

NEXT MEETING:  Friday, 7 April 1995, at 1:00 in Rawl #105.
