ACTIONS OF MEETING
Description of action: The report of the subcommittee to revise the 1996-97
proposal guidelines was presented and discussed.
After discussion, Allred moved that the subcommittee revise the proposal
guidelines to incorporate both the summer stipend and the project expense grant
into a single proposal. Applicants will be eligible for an award every other
year. The progress report for the last award must be available for review by
the committee before an additional application will be considered. The
recommended maximum amount of non-salary project expenses will be raised to
$10,000. Seconded by Felts. Motion passed.
Additional discussion focused on whether applicants should be allowed to submit
reviews from colleagues at other institutions. Tabrizi stated that committee
members cannot understand applications from people in technical areas like
mathematics. Tabrizi moved that applicants be allowed to provide
substantiation of their work by colleagues at other institutions.
Specifically, in Item 5d, the motion was to remove the words "on campus".
Seconded by Walsh. Motion failed.
The committee will meet again on Friday, April 7th, at 1:00 p.m. The
subcommittee will meet before then to make changes as recommended above.
