Download Degree or Certification Applications
Follow these steps to download the application for admission. NOTE: For your application to be processed, a $60 US fee is required when you mail in the application. Your interest in East Carolina University is appreciated, and we will be pleased to receive your application.
1. Get Acrobat Reader
These applications forms are in portable document format (PDF). To use them, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available FREE at Adobe's home page . The free Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to view, navigate, and print PDF files across many different platforms. Adobe's page will lead you through step by step how to acquire their software. Expect the download to take anywhere from a few minutes to upwards of an hour depending on the speed of your computer/modem set up. Once you have acquired Adobe's Acrobat Reader you will be able to view and print the application packets provided on this page.
NOTE: The file you download from Adobe is an Installer file that installs the reader to your directory when you activate it. That file's name is the same as the file name of the Reader that is installed.
2. Read this important information
Each PDF packet contains an application form, instructions, and NC Residency Form (if applicable). The degree application packet also includes transcript request forms, reference forms, and a statement of purpose form.

NOTE: If you configure your browser to use Acrobat Reader as the preferred application for viewing PDF documents, when you click on the packet you should immediately see the forms in Acrobat Reader. Otherwise, you will have to save this document and then go to Acrobat Reader to view and print the application packets.
3. Fill out the application
It is intended that you ONLY print, fill out, and send in the forms. If you edit the forms in anyway, THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
NOTE: In using PDF files we have noted in some cases that text along the left and right margins of the documents may not print completely. We are working on the problem, but until then, when preparing to print, look for an option in the Acrobat Reader print dialog box to "Shrink to fit." This appears to circumvent the printing problem.
4. All of the following documents are needed to complete application processing
Self-managed degree application packet:
- The application
- Nonrefundable application fee of $60 (check or money order payable to East Carolina University; please do not submit cash)
- One official transcript from every college or university attended where you completed seven or more hours of course work
- Three reference forms
- A completed Statement of Purpose Essay
- For other documents required by the specific program of interest check the Graduate School Program Information Booklet .
- Completed Statement of Legal Residence form if claiming NC residence for tuition purposes
- Official results of standardized tests - official scores must come directly from the testing agency. East Carolina University 's GRE, GMAT, and MAT code is 5180
Nondegree application packet:
- The application
- Nonrefundable application fee of $60 (check or money order payable to East Carolina University; please do not submit cash)
- Completed Statement of Legal Residence form if claiming NC residence for tuition purposes
