Getting Started
All new graduate students (except Medical & Dental) are automatically loaded into the Graduate School's online orientation course within the Blackboard course management software. Students should activate their Pirate ID & passphrase (received via email a few days after the acceptance email arrives) and then log into There, new graduate students will see Graduate School Orientation for New Students - Semester of Start.  The words 'semester of start' will be replaced by FALL, SUMMER, or SPRING, depending upon the semester of first enrollment.  Students will click on that course and will be able to see if their program has required assignments, information on plagiarism, how Degree Works is used, and much more! Students will be enrolled in this orientation module for a least 1 full semester, so it can be used as a resource during the first steps of graduate school. Questions can be email to

Please contact your program director to ask if they are holding an orientation event for your degree, program, or department. These are not coordinated by the Graduate School and would be in addition to what the Graduate School offers.

The College of Nursing has a required orientation each August that takes place the same time as the Graduate School Orientation campus event. Nursing students must attend the College of Nursing event (not the Graduate School event). You will be emailed information directly from the College of Nursing. Contact your program director in Nursing if you have not received this information by July 1.



Join us on August 16, 2018 at 8:30 AM Eastern for orientation events on ECU's East Campus (sometimes called main campus). We will begin in the Science & Technology Building with speakers and graduate student panel discussions on a variety of topics to help new graduate students acclimate to graduate school and Greenville! Students will be able to enjoy lunch in the West End Dining Hall (ticket provided or guests may purchase lunch at the register) and then visit over 30 tables of student services and resources in the Student Recreation Center!

Shuttle buses will take students from the Belk Building parking area (Charles Blvd/Curry Court) to the Christenbury gym area for a short walk to the Science & Technology Building. Shuttles will also return students to the Belk Building/Curry Court parking lot at the end of the day from either Christenbury or the Student Recreation Center.

FEE: $25.00 per student, includes materials, lunch, and snack break (Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds after August 10 at 5:00 PM EST).

NURSING STUDENTS - DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS ORIENTATION. You need to attend a required orientation hosted by Nursing (not the Graduate School).  The College of Nursing will email you information. Contact the College of Nursing if you have not received information.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ON AN F-1 VISA - Do not register for this orientation. You need to attend the orientation sponsored by the Office of Global Affairs. Please contact William Mallett at for information on the International Student Orientation (Also held on August 16). 

The Orientation events start at 8:30 AM in the Science & Technology Building, Room C207.
