Greetings and welcome to East Carolina University.

As you explore your educational opportunities, I invite you to consider the University Honors Program.

You can learn facts anywhere. It’s the educational experience that will make your college years memorable. Our program engages you at every level, incorporating Academic Service-Learning, diversity awareness, opportunities for Study Abroad and undergraduate research, an exclusive living/learning community, exciting, seminar-style classes with limited enrollment, and access to special curricular and co-curricular experiences. Your benefits range from early registration to preferred housing to specialized advising to access to special grants and scholarships. We host an “Afternoon Chat” series featuring campus leaders and other special guests.

As an academically talented undergraduate and member of the Honors Program, you may pursue either tier of our program. When you complete 24 semester hours of Honors coursework, a 3 credit-hour Service-Learning course and finish with at least a 3.3 GPA, you will graduate with the commendation of Foundations Curriculum Honors. Or, once you have completed 24 semester hours of Honors coursework, you may then opt to complete a Senior Honors Project, and if you have completed the other program requirements and finish with a 3.5 GPA, you may earn University Honors upon graduation.

Honors students at ECU are inventive, bright and full of initiative. We encourage you to start student groups, plan events, present at professional conferences, study abroad and create your own experience here at ECU. We encourage you to get involved in ECHO (East Carolina Honors Organization), Phi Eta Sigma (Undergraduate Honor Society) and The Honors Council.

As Mark Twain so adeptly encourages us to challenge ourselves: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed with the things you didn't do than by the things you did. . . Sail away from the safe harbor . . . Catch the trade winds in your sails . . . Explore . . . Dream . . . Discover.”

This is your program. We dare you to be extraordinary.

Sincerely,

mfb
