
Dr. Michael Bassman, Associate Vice ChancellorBiographical InformationDr. Michael Bassman completed his graduate studies at Brown University and the University of Connecticut where he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance philology. He did his dissertation research in Romania under the auspices of a Fulbright grant. Dr. Bassman did post-graduate work at the University of Rouen in France, Columbia University, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he focused on the Holocaust. He is a tenured faculty member in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at ECU and, as well, was a founding member and the first director of the Ethnic Studies Program. He has received numerous awards, including the “Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching” and “The Eighth Annual Founders Day Award for Service.” At present, Dr. Bassman heads The University Honors Program, EC Scholars, and Undergraduate Research. In addition, he is President of the ECU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society. |
