Scholarly Activity Awards for Students 

SAASscience_webThe Academic Programs Team of the Honors College has launched a new initiative called Scholarly Activity Awards for Students (SAAS). Funding for approximately 12-14 awards will be available for this fiscal year. To apply, complete the Scholarly Activity Awards for Students (SAAS) online application.

Applications will be accepted only from Honors College students in good standing who are seeking funds to support one of the following: 
  • Registration fee for a national, regional, state, or local conference presentation in which you are representing a department, school, or college at ECU other than the Honors College. (Maximum award is $400.)

  • Publication fee for an accepted article, manuscript, or creative piece in which you are representing a department, school, or college at ECU other than the Honors College. (Maximum award is $400.) 

  • Research materials or supplies necessary and requisite for undergraduate research in which you are representing a department, school, or college at ECU other than the Honors College. Note: Research materials can be used for research that you are currently working on for course credit or for no credit. Textbook requests will not be funded. (Maximum award is $400.) 

  • Innovation or entrepreneurial projects in which you are representing a department, school, or college at ECU other than the Honors College. Note: Innovation project need requests should not be associated with course credit. (Maximum award is $400.)

Application cycles for this fiscal year are as follows:

  • Spring Semester Cycle: Deadline to apply online by November 30, 2014. Decision letters will be issued by December 15, 2014.
  • Summer Semester Cycle: Deadline to apply online by March 15, 2015. Decision letters will be issued by April 15, 2015.

Application cycles for next fiscal year are as follows:

  • Fall Semester Cycle*: Deadline to apply by July 15, 2015. Decision letters will be issued by August 15, 2015.
  • Spring Semester Cycle*: Deadline to apply online by November 15, 2015. Decision letters will be issued by December 15, 2015.
  • Summer Semester Cycle*: Deadline to apply online by March 15, 2016. Decision letters will be issued by April 15, 2016.
*This cycle will open if funding is available.

Cannon Summer Scholars

The Cannon Summer Scholars Program of CHS is a program of instruction in research for selected medical students and graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities. Summer scholars work closely with mentors who are performing original research in the clinics or laboratories of CHS.

Behavioral Research Advancements in Neuroscience

Students are selected to participate in one of two groups, either with a group on an assigned project or with a group that gets to design their own research project.

All participants in the summer program get  $3000 stipend as well as room and board and transportation cost to Atlanta, GA.

Summer Biomedical Research Program

The SBRP provides a unique opportunity for undergraduates to engage in basic science research at the Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) and Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Faculty conducting research in the areas of Anatomy & Cell Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology & Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physiology, Health Disparities and Clinical Research will prepare students to address scientific questions using cutting-edge experimental approaches.
