Honors College Admissions
The Honors College seeks to invite students who will actively participate in a community of learners, provide the campus with exceptional leadership and service, and respect a diversity of perspectives inside and beyond the classroom.
Admissions Process for Entering Class of Fall 2012
Admission to the Honors College at East Carolina University is competitive and by invitation. Students wishing to be considered for admission into the Honors College or any of its programs first need to meet minimum eligibility criteria to receive an invitation to apply:
- Submit a completed application for undergraduate admission to East Carolina University (ECU) by the priority deadline (December 1, 2011)
- Meet the following minimum criteria within both the standardized test and high school achievement categories:
- Minimum math/verbal combined SAT score of 1200 or Minimum ACT score of 27
- Minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.5 or minimum weighted GPA of 4.0
Students who meet the above criteria will receive an invitation by mail to complete the Honors College application. The postmarked deadline for submitting the completed Honors College application and all associated materials is December 15, 2011. The Honors College will acknowledge receipt of Honors College applications with an e-mail confirmation.
Applications are reviewed throughout December and January with a targeted notification date of January 31, 2012 for those students who are admitted into the Honors College.
EC Scholars Admissions Process
The EC Scholars Award is the most prestigious scholarship offered at East Carolina University. It offers an academic experience that goes beyond the ordinary. Students wishing to be considered for the EC Scholars Award first need to be accepted into the Honors College. Additionally, students need to complete section II of the Honors College application and submit all associated materials by the Honors College application (postmarked) deadline of December 15, 2011.
The EC Scholars review process occurs in late-January and students identified as finalists are notified of their status by a targeted notification date in early-February. Finalists are required to participate in the finalist interviews during Honors College Preview Weekend in February in Greenville, North Carolina. Recipients of the EC Scholars award are notified by a targeted date in early-March.
Early Assurance Program Admissions Process
The Early Assurance Program awards four incoming freshmen (who must be North Carolina residents) enrollment in the Brody School of Medicine upon graduation from ECU provided academic performance standards are maintained. Students wishing to be considered for the Early Assurance Program will first need to be accepted into the Honors College. Additionally, students will need to complete section III of the Honors College application and submit all associated materials by the Honors College application (postmarked) deadline of December 15.
The Early Assurance Program review process occurs in late-January and students identified as finalists are notified of their status by a targeted notification date in early-February. Students selected for the Early Assurance Program are notified by a targeted date in early-March.
Wait List Admissions Process for the Fall 2012 entering classThe Honors College wait list application process is open to any prospective undergraduate student who has been accepted to East Carolina University prior to March 15, 2012. Strongest consideration will be directed to those students who meet Honors College minimum eligibility criteria (a minimum math/critical reading combined SAT score of 1200 or minimum ACT score of 27 and a minimum un-weighted high school GPA of 3.5 or minimum weighted high school GPA of 4.0). Students who have already applied to the Honors College and who were initially denied admission are automatically added to the Honors College wait list.
The Honors College wait list is consulted to fill the Honors College entering class if the incoming cohort falls below the Honors College enrollment goal. The Honors College wait list is not connected with the EC Scholars or Early Assurance Program selection processes.
The Honors College wait list application will be made available exclusively through this website by a date of March 1, 2012. The application carries a postmarked deadline date of March 24, 2012. The application packet must be completed in full and may be submitted via mail, fax, or as a scanned file via e-mail. The Honors College will acknowledge receipt of wait list applications with an e-mail confirmation. Following this electronic confirmation, the Honors College will only communicate with students on the wait list in the event of an updated admissions status with the Honors College. These decisions will be made on a rolling basis with all final decisions occurring by August 1, 2012.
