Housing

All first-year Honors students are required to live together in the Honors College Living/Learning community.  Our fall 2012 incoming cohort will be residing in Garrett Residence Hall on central campus.  This location positions our Honors students close to classroom buildings and major support facilities, including the Mamie Jenkins Building, Joyner Library, Student Recreation Center, and Mendenhall Student Center.

As the residence hall for the Honors College, Garrett Hall provides a number of features for our students including study and social lounge space, sinks in all rooms, recently renovated restrooms, co-ed floors, and partnerships with the Wellness Living-Learning Community and the Biology Living-Learning Community within Garrett Hall.  Incoming freshmen have the opportunity to pull-in students as roommates who are not participants in the Honors College.  Additionally, tour upperclassmen are provided the opportunity to return to housing in the Garrett Hall.

Research shows that bringing students together with others who share their academic motivation will help ensure an excellent start to their college career.  Students who share a living-learning experience, like that offered by ECU’s Honors College, consistently do better academically than students who go it alone. Furthermore, the living-learning experience at ECU creates a cohort of peers that will become a student's foundation for support while at ECU and beyond.
