Honors Ambassadors

Honors Ambassadors are a group of Honors students who volunteer to support the recruitment and marketing components of the Honors College through special events, meetings, and initiatives.  Ambassadors will be directly involved in recruiting talented prospective students to the College through campus open houses, individual visits, online chats, and other outreach activities.  This group will also serve as a student advisory board to the administration of the Honors College on issues of recruitment and marketing.

The activities and expectations of the Honors Ambassadors can be categorized in two major areas:

1.           Volunteer assistance at recruitment events

Ambassadors are integral in supporting the recruitment of high school seniors to apply to and subsequently join the Honors College.  Ambassadors support our recruitment efforts through campus open houses, Honors College preview days, individual visits made by prospective students and families, online chats, and calling campaigns.  Additionally, students in this group will be called upon to support other events and initiatives that support the College, including focus groups, orientations, seminar development, and other program enhancements.

2.       Participation at Ambassadors meetings

The Honors Ambassadors hold regular meetings once every two or three weeks to discuss recruitment, admissions, and marketing efforts in the Honors College. These students provide critical feedback and insight as the Honors College develops policies and launches recruitment and marketing initiatives.  Occasionally, the Honors Ambassadors will discuss other topics or host guest speakers on leadership and career development topics.

The time commitment for being an Ambassador is up to the student. This could range from signing up for the Ambassadors e-mail list to taking a major leadership role within the organization.  Regardless of how much time and support a student is willing to provide, his or her impact will be felt greatly.

Ambassadors help the Honors College tremendously, and each Ambassador is entitled to a sense of achievement because of his or her contribution to the on-going success of the College. Aside from this intangible reward, students can benefit from the program by making connections with other students, developing their public speaking and interpersonal skills through recruiting and attending meetings, and making connections with the Honors College administration who can one day serve as references for jobs, internships, or fellowships. Ambassadors should put the experience on their resumes and use this description when they summarize their activities in the program.

The advisors for this group are Kevin Baxter, Associate Dean of the Honors College and Jim Ellis, Academic Advisor for the Honors College.  If you are interested in joining the Honors Ambassadors, please contact Kevin Baxter to indicate your interest.
