Visiting Scholars

The Office of Global Affairs promotes the East Carolina University's teaching and research mission by overseeing the Visiting Scholar program. Our office provides support to academic departments and their visitors from overseas who are performing temporary teaching and research collaborations at ECU. The goal is for these visitors to bring their skills and knowledge to the university, while sharing their unique traditions and cultures with the ECU community. In exchange, these temporary visitors return to their home countries upon program completion with new knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.

The Office of Global Affairs works with the hosting academic department and the Division of Research, Economic Development and Engagement to fulfill all federal, state and university requirements for ECU’s Visiting Scholars under the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. The Office of Global Affairs also supports the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs on issues related to the visa status of postdoctoral scholars.
