International Student Association Constitution
Preamble
The purposes of the International Student Association are: (a) To give international students an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the American culture in part through the experience of a campus-based organization. (b) To give American students, with an interest or background in other cultures, knowledge of and a feeling for other cultures and the people from those cultures. (c) To provide a service specifically for, but not restricted to, international students on campus. (d) To be an advocate for all International students at East Carolina University.
Article: Name
Section 1: This organization is hereby named the International Student Association (I.S.A.).
Article: Purpose
Section 1: The Association may not form to engage in commercial activities.
Section 2: The Association must meet the needs of the East Carolina University International Community.
ARTICLE: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Membership shall be of two types:
(a) REGULAR membership is open to all students, staff, faculty, and alumni of East Carolina University. There will be no discrimination of race, sex, creed, color, age, veteran status, or disability with regards to the purpose of the association. The privileges of these members are as specified in the By-Laws. (b) SPECIAL membership is open to all categories outside of those mentioned in Article IV Section 1(a). These members shall not exercise voting privileges or be allowed to hold office. The privileges of these members are as specified in the By-Laws.
ARTICLE: AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Proposed amendments shall be submitted to the Executive Committee in writing.
Section 2: The proposal shall be presented and discussed at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
Section 3: The constitution shall be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the people present at the meeting at the following regularly scheduled meeting, provided that there has been a period of at least a week between the presentation and the vote on the amendments.
BY-LAWS
Section 1: All international students enrolled at East Carolina University are automatic regular members.
Section 2: Any other student, staff, faculty, and alumni can be a member by joining this Association.
Section 3: Special member’s privileges include, but are not limited to, assisting in organizing events, fund raising, and ad-hoc committees. |
