East Carolina University is located in Greenville, North Carolina which is in the southeastern United States. From Greenville, it is less than a two-hour drive to both the state capital of Raleigh to the west and to the Atlantic Coast beaches to the east. The nation’s capital, Washington, DC is less than 5 hours by car north of ECU. Greenville’s climate is relatively mild and experiences all four seasons during the year. The average summer temperature is 29 degrees Celsius, while the average winter temperature is 7 degrees Celsius. Greenville is a growing city of more than 70,000 people that is a business, cultural, educational and medical hub of eastern North Carolina. East Carolina University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. With the average undergraduate class size being 26 students and the student to faculty ratio on campus being 18 to 1, you can quickly find your place in the American classroom.

I have many international friends here that I have met at the orientation day but I have many American friends too. They were really nice to me when I came here. They were helping me a lot. They were very helpful and the professors were helpful too so I consider my professors my friends too.
ECU is a statewide leader in teaching future educators, allied health practitioners, nurses, and hospitality management professionals. Many students choose to take advantage of the on-campus housing and dining available at East Carolina University. There are 15 residence halls in three campus neighborhoods. With 2 all-you-can-eat dining halls on campus as well as 4 food courts and two convenience stores students have a variety of options when it comes to eating. ECU has many on-campus opportunities for students to enjoy such as more than 250 student organizations, a vibrant fine and performing arts scene with hundreds of plays, exhibitions, concerts, and other gatherings including cultural events.

There are so many organizations and programs you can be a part of. I‘m in the symphonic band. We have a concert twice a semester and it is a great way to experience performing in front of an audience. I’m also in the honors program where I can benefit from taking small classes and unique seminars.
With a diverse student population that includes more than 200 international students from more than fifty countries and a variety of student organizations including the International Student Association, Arab Student Union, Spanish Club and many more it is possible to find a like-minded group of friends. ECU has one of the biggest and best-equipped student recreation centers of its kind on the East Coast. As a student you are a member.

I don’t need a lot inside my room. I just go run and do some stuff like watching free movie in the Mendenhall center or playing pool or playing bowling or go to the student rec center.
ECU also has a student newspaper, literary journals, a radio station, music and choral groups, drama and dance performances, concerts, lectures, film series and internships available to students.

I think it is an amazing chance to come here and ECU is a really amazing place because of the atmosphere. It is really open and friendly and it’s really good.
