Space Planning at ECU

Located in the Office of Institutional Planning, space planning is responsible for the management and the allocation of more than six million square feet of university space, both on and off campus.  The office makes recommendations regarding current and future use of the University's space resource in accordance with the University’s Mission and Master Plan.

What We Do

•    Ensure the strategic use of existing facilities and guide the development of new
      facilities
•    Manage AiM™, the University’s work management system
that maintains the University’s AutoCAD floor plans and space inventory
•    Serve as a liaison to the North Carolina Board of Governors, reporting on the
      University’s facilities usage
•    Initiate and collaborate with colleges/departments/units on space utilization
studies, feasibility studies, and repurposing of facilities
•    Support the University Space Committee, a decision-making body appointed by
the Chancellor, and the Space Allocation Committee in their efforts to address
      university space issues
•    Anticipate and respond to the move planning and surge needs of the University
•    Evaluate, manage, and make recommendations to the University Space
Committee regarding requests for new campus space, temporary use of space,
      and/or space reallocations
•    Track, evaluate, and report changes in space assignments on campus
•    Analyze space/population projections to ensure optimal use of and locations
      for existing and proposed space
