Welcome to the Office of Institutional Planning

In order to serve the campus community, the Office of Institutional Planning has developed a suite of services that offers focused support to both academic and administrative units in the preparation, organization, and alignment of their planning efforts to promote continuous improvement.  The office is responsible for working collaboratively to integrate and align efforts to support and advance the ECU Mission.

Work of the office focuses on the following:

•    Strategic Planning
•    Space Planning

•    Business Process Review

•    Special Initiatives, including the ECU Knowledge Management Initiative and
      Baldrige Criteria
for Performance Excellence in Higher Education
•    Institutional Grants, including the management of and support for ECU’s Title
      III Strengthening Institutions Grant

The office offers expertise in planning principles, adopted by the ECU Strategic Planning Advisory Committee, and facilitates the use and development of best practices in planning and process modeling. By engaging the university community, office staff assist our partners in developing systems that support knowledge-based decision making, identify and support team-based, collaborative approaches towards accomplishing stated goals, advance university strategic directions, and encourage the highest quality outcomes.

Of note is that, in 2010, ECU secured a $2M Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.  The goals of this grant include the development of department-specific and university-wide written comprehensive plans for utilizing institutional effectiveness planning and assessment mechanisms to enhance student learning.  The work also focuses on developing department-specific, assessment-based, teaching and learning and student services strategies to improve student persistence, retention, and graduation.  Work underway supports the University’s vision for continuous improvement, maximizing efficiencies, and access and financial stability.
