Why Moodle?

Why would you choose to use Moodle?

Academic Outreach is undergoing a Course Management System study with the participation of faculty members to compare three CMS platforms: Moodle, Sakai, and Blackboard. Currently, the University has a CMS in place which is Blackboard.

Moodle provides another choice is with Open Source software there are more opportunities for change and upgrades. Moodle can be customized and there is a large community which supports Moodle at http://www.moodle.org where information can be found about the Moodle roadmap, forums on technical issues, and support from a world-wide community of users.

Moodle promotes collaborative learning; therefore most of its tools have an emphasis on communication. It includes features such as forums, wikis, assignments, quizzes, rss feeds, and much more.

Moodle has a flat interface design, therefore almost all of the material will be presented on the course homepage which encourages more linear course structure and use of small clusters of information and more modular assignments.
