Color can be defined as “the natural appearance of the skin.” Color discrimination involves treating someone less favorably because of the color of his or her skin. Examples of inappropriate conduct based on color include, but are not limited to, refusal to hire a qualified individual because of the color of the individual’s skin and disparaging remarks about an individual’s skin tone. ECU’s policies which prohibit harassment and discrimination on the basis of color include the Equal Employment Opportunity Plan and the Notice of Nondiscrimination.
