What is Distance Education?

Distance Education simply means that you take your coursework some place other than on ECU's campus. In other words, degree and certificate programs are delivered to you, where you are, as opposed to the other way around.

Distance Education has many forms at ECU. Most degree and certificate programs are delivered over the Internet. Some utilize CD's containing lectures and coursework. Other programs offer traditional "face-to-face" classes in locations throughout eastern North Carolina. Some programs contain a mix of the three.

(Note: It's important for you to check how the program you are interested in is delivered. That way you can be sure it meets your academic needs and your schedule.)

The bottom line is this - distance education allows busy, working adults to complete an education without sacrificing career or family. It will not be easy, but it is possible. For a listing of degree and certificate programs offered through distance education, click here.
