Welcome to ECU. Congratulations! You have joined a faculty with a long tradition of successful research and creative activity. In this handbook we will provide an overview of the services, resources, and procedures to help you with your research and creative activity. Please contact any of the offices or units below for more information when needed. They will give you personalized attention.

ECU Faculty Are Accomplished Researchers and Creative Artists. The Evidence:

• Edge Magazine: Read about ECU faculty's exciting projects in our annual research and creative activity magazine EDGE. (We are on the 'cutting edge'.) It is an online & print magazine that highlights the accomplishments of our faculty. Please view the current annual edition, 2009, or browse our Archive of Past Edge Magazine Issues.
• ECU Research/Creative Activity Excellence Awards : Each year ECU honors excellence in research and creative activity through two types of awards: Lifetime Excellence in Research/Creative Activity Awards (for senior faculty) and Five Year Excellence in Research/Creative Activity Awards (for more junior faculty). Awardees receive a cash prize and are honored with a seminar during the University Research Week Celebration each Spring. • External Funding: ECU faculty received over $44 million dollars last year in grants and contracts for their projects. ECU has a support system in place to help faculty seek and obtain external support. See Getting Started below.
