Internal Reader Service

Provides Individualized Help on Proposal Drafts

The Division of Research & Graduate Studies is pleased to announce a new service for ECU faculty members. A group of twenty one senior ECU faculty members have kindly agreed to read and provide constructive criticism for external grant proposals written by their ECU colleagues. These faculty members are all successful grant seekers and many have experience as proposal reviewers for external funding agencies. The readers can provide individualized comments on:

  • A proposal’s scholarship
  • Proposal structure,
  • Responsiveness to program guidelines and review criteria
  • Writing style (no copy editing, please.)

This service is a useful tool for all faculty members who would like feedback to enhance their proposals before submission. It will be especially helpful to those new to the world of external grant funding,

The Division will act as a broker to match requesting faculty with an available reader. A reasonably complete draft proposal is a requirement before a proposal can be referred to a reader. Please see the Guidelines for more details for more details.

If you have questions, please contact the following individuals who will be administering the service:

Dr. Alan Schreier Director, New Program Development
Mr. Ernie Marshburn Director of Strategic Initiatives
