Alderman

Derek H. Alderman is Associate Professor of Geography. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1998 and joined the faculty of East Carolina University in 2000. Alderman is a cultural and historical geographer specializing in the politics of public commemoration and symbolic landscapes in the American South. For the past several years, he has studied the politics of naming streets after Martin Luther King, Jr., establishing himself as a national authority on the issue.
