Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) Strategic Planning
The Division of Research and Graduate Studies actively engages in a thoughtful and ongoing process of strategic planning aligned to that of the university which includes the development of strategic goals and measureable objectives that clearly align with the university’s Strategic Action plan, 2010-13. Most recently, the Division has held strategic planning retreats in April of 2008 and August of 2010. The 2010 meeting involved over 40 individuals representing wide ranging academic and support units. That event resulted in the creation of a Divisional white paper entitled ECU's Response to Our Region's Grand Challenges.
Subsequently, the Division developed a new Strategic Plan for 2010-13 which aligns with ECU’s Strategic Action Plan and derives from the collective strategic planning activities of its constituent departments. In the aggregate these Divisional planning efforts involved 15 units, 32 meetings and workshops, and well over 150 individuals.
The Division's plan emphasizes five strategic goals: 1) Increase Research Productivity, 2) Expand Research Opportunities for Students, 3) Expand the Application of Research and Engagement to Benefit the Region, 4) Improve Research Infrastructure and Support Services, and 5) Address the Need for Diversity within the Division.
Each of the Division's departments also has engaged in a strategic planning process that aligns their 2010-13 priorities with ECU and Divisional directions. These Plans include:
