Mary Farwell, Director of Undergraduate Research
Dr. Farwell received her ScB in Biology with Honors from Brown University, where she did undergraduate research on aldosterone metabolism in rats. She then went on to University of California, Berkeley, where she completed her PhD in Biochemistry. Her dissertation work was on protein synthesis in bacteria. She was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Department of Chemistry and in 1994 became an Assistant Professor at ECU, Department of Biology. Dr. Farwell has trained 14 graduate students and 40 undergraduates. Her work on cell death in breast cancer cells has been funded by the NIH, as well as the American Cancer Society and the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center. In 2008 she became Director of Undergraduate Studies in Biology where she continues part-time.
