About Sakai

Sakai is an open source course management system that supports teaching and learning, ad hoc group collaboration, portfolios and research collaboration. Sakai is a set of software tools designed to help instructors, researchers, and students create sites for collaboration and learning. For coursework, Sakai provides a feature set to supplement and enhance teaching and learning. For collaboration, Sakai provides a tool set to help users organize communication and collaborative work.

Sakai software is part of the Sakai Project (www.sakaiproject.org), an R&D project for creating open source collaborative tools for use in learning, research, and other types of distributed group work. Portions of Sakai were developed by MIT, Indiana University, Stanford University, University of Michigan, and University of California Berkeley. Visit the Sakai Project website http://www.sakaiproject.org/ for more information.
