On February 11, 2009, in partnership with the North Carolina's Eastern Region, Northeast Commission, and the Craven County Tourism Authority, the Center conducted a Mini-Summit on Sustainable Tourism at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. The program focused on opportunities for tourism entities in sustainability in addition to the important linkages of tourism to economic development and stabilization of the region. On November 14-15, 2008, in partnership with the North Carolina Sea Grant, the National Climatic Data Center and the East Carolina University Institute for Coastal Science and Policy, the Center conducted a workshop to address the complexities of the relationship between climate seasonality and variability and weather, and their affect on the business and economic sectors of tourism.
