In previous academic years, the University Writing Program has run the Institute in Teaching Writing-Intensive Courses, begun by the UWP's first director, Dr. Patrick Bizzaro. Each year, Dr. Bizzaro, and later our second director, Dr. Jim Kirkland, invited 6-10 WI course instructors to attend the program. Participants learned how others in the program teach their WI courses by demonstrating a teaching method addressing in some fashion the teaching of writing in their classes. Many of these demonstrations were written as articles and published here on the UWP website so other instructors might avail themselves of this important information.
Because of current budgetary restrictions and other programmatic changes, the state of the Institute is presently uncertain. If you are interested in more information about the Institute, however, please contact our new UWP Director, Dr. Diane Penrod.
