STAFF DEVELOPMENT/TRAINING: OVERVIEW

The Staff Development and Training section offers serveral courses, programs, certifications, institutes, leadership academys and workshops which are open to all permanent University employees, which include EPA, NF-EPA, SPA and CSS personnel.

These development initiatives are currently free to the employees of East Carolina University and their respective department.  By aggressively investing in the pro-active education and training of it’s personnel, East Carolina University seeks to advance the overall quality of work-life, improve critical employee skills, and enrich the University work environment with highly skilled employees.

In addition to its training and instructional duties the Staff Development section also serves as the University's liason to both the Office of State Personnel & University of North Carolina General Administration regarding all development and instructional matters relating to personnel.  The Staff Development section also manages University employee recognition and service programs, advises in organizational development, and assists in University Administration special initiatives.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: CUSTOMIZED TRAINING


Staff Development & Training offers consulting and development services to Divsions, Departments, Units and work teams in need of customized training initiatives.  Common requests for consultation and assessment involve assisting work teams with personnel communication, strategic planning, customer service skills, team project management and organizational management schemes to include leadership and mentor training.  When requesting development services Division or Department administators should contact the University Training Coordinator and submit an Organizational Development Request Form.

          COURSES/CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS/INSTITUTES                    COURSE & WORKSHOP REGISTRATION
Seven seperate certificate programs exist to enhance critical workplace skills, knowledge and professional development for University employees within his/her respective job function(s).  Each program contains individual courses that are offered at varying times throught the Fall and Spring semesters.  The courses within each certification were specifically selected to support the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for each work group. The Department of Human Resources offers a wealth of courses relating to both voluntary and mandatory training initiatives to include Professional & Career Development, Policy & Procedural updates, Soft Skills and Employee Wellness Programs.  University Faculty & Staff should reference the Training Resources SharePoint site which houses the University Master Training Calendar and incorporates events from several departments and work units across the campus community.  After reviewing the Training Resources SharePoint site employees may register for open courses via the ECU OneStop application using his/her PirateID and Passphrase.
 In addition employees wishing to take single courses listed may do so without having to completed an entire certification track.  The ability for supervisors and personnel to customize the training courses to best fit organizational needs is a key component necessary in developing our highly skilled employees.
