Bruce N. Austin, Jr. is a retired senior vice president/group executive of Wachovia Bank, N.A. Mr. Austin joined Wachovia in 1980. He held various management positions in retail, banking, corporate banking and loan administration, including two years as city executive in Kill Devil Hills. He was named vice-president in 1986. He became regional corporate banking manager of the Eastern Region in Greenville in 1990 and was elected senior vice president in 1991. He was named area executive of the Mideastern Area in 1996. He was named manager of relationship management for the Sales Finance Division in 1997 and was elected group executive in January 1998. He was named manger of Private Banking in July 1998. In January of2000 he was named manager of Community Banking.He received a BSBA degree from East Carolina University. He also is a graduate of the Young Executives Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wachovia's Senior Management Development Program at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. In addition, he has a Certificate in Financial Planning from Florida State University.
He previously has served on the boards of directors of the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce; Eastern North Carolina Chamber of Commerce; Eastern Region Small Business Technology and Development Center, of which he was chairman; Entrepreneurial Development Council of Eastern North Carolina, of which he was treasurer; and the United Way of Pitt County. He also was chairman of the membership campaign of the Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he served on the state board of the Small Business Technology and Development Center and on the East Carolina University School of Business Advisory Council.
