The East Carolina University Foundation Inc. serves as the repository for private gifts to support the students and academic programs at East Carolina University. The foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt, public charity, incorporated in North Carolina, and operating under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue code. Gifts to the ECU Foundation Inc. are charitable donations that may be claimed as tax deductions by the donor.
The ECU Foundation Inc. is governed by an independent board of directors. These volunteer leaders in business, their professions, and civic affairs, serve without compensation. They contribute generously of their time, their expertise, and their own personal resources. They provide external oversight of the foundation's operations and they work in concert with university leadership to support the university’s advancement and development functions.

The East Carolina University Foundation Inc., is a dynamic, forward-looking, volunteer led, tax exempt organization that plays a critical role in advancing our university. This body cultivates friends, raises, manages and distributes private resources to benefit the university, its students, and its academic and research programs; provides positive public advocacy for the university; and ensures funding for the “Margin of Excellence” that defines East Carolina University today and in the future.
