Our Mission:
The Office of Equal Opportunity and Equity (Equity) provides leadership to East Carolina University's efforts to foster an environment free from harassment and discrimination and ensure compliance and equity in educational opportunity, programming and employment regardless of an individual's age, color, creed, disability, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or veterans' status. The areas within the Office of Equal Opportunity and Equity offer programs and services to support an inclusive working and learning environment and are available to faculty, staff and students.
Our Goals:
- To facilitate compliance with federal and state laws and institutional policies regarding equal opportunity and affirmative action.
- To investigate and resolve complaints of discrimination and harassment
- To create, implement, promote and monitor institutional equal opportunity and affirmative action policies and procedures
- To educate the entire academic community -- students, faculty and staff about their rights and responsibilities with respect to equal opportunity in a diverse community
- To assist departments and units in recruitment and retention processes for employees and students to ensure equality of opportunity at East Carolina University
- To advocate for equity, opportunity, access, diversity, non-discrimination and affirmative action
- To foster an academic community where all people, including diverse individuals, have an opportunity to realize their fullest potential
