Parking And Traffic
Past due accounts are charged a 9% interest charge divisible over a (12) month period. The charged is accrued on the 15th of the month.
Parking and Traffic adds a one time late fee of $5 to a citation that is 10-days old.
The department currently utilized the University Student Data Base and vehicle registration records from the Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain license-owner information.
This department generates (30) and (60) day notices. Account (90) days and older will be contacted with a collection agency that has a contract with the state of North Carolina. The department will utilize the Debt Set-off collection Act through the Department of Revenue when debts become 90 days old and when the dollar amount is more than $50.
State Employees Debt Collection Act. Billing notices sent to employees will reflect the department's participation in this program.
Vendor Set off Program. The new state policy will be used by Parking and Transportation when outstanding debts have been accumulated by contractors and vendors.
Refusal of Service. The department currently tags university records of students who have four outstanding citations and/or an outstanding balance of $50 or more. This prevents receipt of transcript information and the ability to register for class.
Allowance for Doubtful Accounts. Based on aged account information generated from citation records, the department determines what accounts are too old to be collected.
Returned Checks
Upon receipt of the returned check the student's record will be tagged, and a first class letter will be sent requiring payment including a $20 return check fee to be remitted no less than two weeks. Receivables are charged back to students' account along with the return check fee.
