What is the East Carolina Faculty and Staff Campaign?

The East Carolina Faculty and Staff Campaign is a campuswide fund-raising campaign that strives to celebrate the spirit of East Carolina University through the creation of a culture of giving in the entire university community—including students.

Who will be invited to participate?

All ECU faculty, staff, and retired employees are invited to join the campaign.

Can I specify where my contribution should go?

Absolutely! Your contribution can be designated to a variety of areas, including scholarships, colleges, departments, programs, or endowed chairs, just to name a few. Your gift directly benefits the area you choose. Simply note your preference on the contribution form.

Can I designate my gift to more than one area?

Of course! Clearly note on the contribution form each area you want to support and how much you want to give to that area.

Can I make a gift jointly with my spouse?

Yes. Please mark the contribution form to indicate that your gift is a joint gift, and both you and your spouse will receive credit for the gift.

I have already made an annual gift this year. Will it count toward this campaign?

Yes. All gifts made by employees to the university either through alumni giving, parent giving, or giving directly to a program or department count when we calculate faculty and staff participation rates.

What if my spouse works for a matching-gift company?

Contributions to ECU are matched by many matching-gift companies. You should obtain the matching-gift form from your spouse’s employer and include the completed paperwork with your gift.

Can I make an anonymous gift?

Yes. You may make an anonymous gift, and your anonymity will be respected throughout the campaign and beyond.

I already made a gift to the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC). Will my gift count toward the East Carolina Faculty and Staff Campaign?

No. The funds raised through the SECC, while important to our community, do not contribute directly to the university unless you selected the ECU Foundation Inc. or the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation Inc. as the beneficiary of your gift. We are glad and grateful that you support the SECC, but through the faculty and staff campaign, we are asking you to support our students and the university directly.

I currently give through payroll deduction. Can I redirect my gift to a different fund or program and/or change my payroll deduction amount?

Yes. Please complete the contribution form, noting that this is a change to your existing payroll deduction.

Shouldn’t the contributions of my talent and time be enough?

Those who make their livelihoods here know firsthand what it takes to keep ECU strong and competitive. Only by ensuring that ECU continues to attract the best students will we remain successful and ensure the next 100 years are as bright as the first. Our support of our campus community is also an investment in the university, our mission, and our students. It is a demonstration of our commitment to East Carolina.

ECU is a state university. Why do we need private gifts?

State appropriations, tuition, and fees represent only a portion of ECU’s operating budget. The remaining sources—gifts, grants, contracts, and patient services—are playing an increasingly important role. For some ECU programs, gifts represent the primary source of revenue. Plus, giving by staff and faculty members sends a great message to outside groups approached for support.

If I signed up for payroll deduction last year, will it automatically renew?

Yes. Payroll deduction continues at the amount set to the funds selected until you authorize the ECU Foundation Inc. by written notice or via e-mail to make any changes.

Are faculty and staff donors eligible for recognition by ECU’s donor societies?

Yes! Contact the Annual Giving Office at 252-328-4483 for more information.
