Fact Book
 The East Carolina University Fact Book is an annual publication that provides summary reports produced by Institutional Research.  This book is a compilation of statistical data on various aspects of the university including enrollment, degrees awarded, faculty & staff, resources, and other factual information.  The primary purposes of the Fact Book are to promote general knowledge and understanding within the university, to provide members of ECU’s educational community with summary statistical data which can be used to review and evaluate programs, and to assist the campus community in making informed decisions.
 
 
Academic Management Information Reports
These reports are intended to assist units in evaluating programs and making future allocation decisions. Reports for Colleges may contain multiple pages. The Common Data Set (CDS)
The Common Data Set contains information that is commonly sought by those who publish data about colleges and universities.  The CDS contains information about institutional characteristics, student enrollment, number of faculty, student expenses, housing, and financial aid.

College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) Faculty Salary Survey
 ECU participates in the National Faculty Salary Survey by Discipline and Rank in Public and Private Four-Year Colleges and Universities (NFSS). This annual survey is a tool for benchmarking institutional salaries.  The NFSS provides salary data for full-time faculty by discipline and rank, and data on pay practices for both full-time and adjunct faculty. IR extracts the aggregated data, and compiles a report that compares ECU salaries to UNC System, Public Doctoral, and GA Peer institutions.  Additionally, 80%ile statistics are presented in this report.
 
 

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
The NSSE Survey measures student engagement in many important activities that research studies show are positively related to learning and personal development.

 
 

The First Year Student Survey
This survey is administered to students during First Year Student Orientation sessions each summer. Some of the survey questions are administered at all 16 UNC institutions in conjunction with The University of North Carolina's Office of the President. The remaining questions are designed to assist ECU faculty and staff in better understanding students and creating programs and services to respond to students' needs. 

 
 
Student Credit Hour Reports (SCH)
This report includes student credit hour data for program areas.  Weekly SCH is the number of student credit hours produced per week by faculty or graduate assistants teaching a course in a given program as specified by the East Carolina University Bulletin course catalog.  SCH for Academic Affairs and Health Sciences are categorized by College and School and categorized by course prefix.  Health Sciences includes the Brody School of Medicine Ph.D. programs, but does not include the M.D. program.  Users who are interested in trend analyzes should refer to the relevant Academic Management Information Reports.

SCH reports are grouped in the following ways:

  • Academic semester (Fall, Spring, Summer I and Summer II)
  • Instructional level (Undergraduate and Graduate)
  • Course level (1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 and 8000/9000)
  • Delivery method (On-Campus and Distance Education)

Delaware Study of Instructional Costs and Productivity
 The Delaware Study is a tool for comparative analysis of faculty teaching loads, direct instructional cost, and separately budgeted scholarly activity, all at the level of the academic discipline. The Delaware Study is used by major data cooperatives and state agencies, including the University of North Carolina System.  It is a versatile and highly useful analytical tool for making management and policy decisions, whether at the level of the academic department, institution, state, or national level. 
 
 

ECU Faculty Salary Survey

This is an annual report compiled by IR, and used by administration to make full-time faculty salary allocations for main campus.  The graphs and tables presented below show some results of the aggregated data.
