Meet our students

What are some of the things you are proud of at ECU?

In my opinion, being a Pirate is about striving to represent our university in a positive way, and always having pride and admiration for the university that is helping us to better our future. I am proud that East Carolina Pirates can see the bigger picture in life and will work diligently to accomplish their life goals and be successful in their journeys. Pirates will also stand up for their values and carry on the traditions and customs that they learned from East Carolina University for the rest of their lives. Pirates will always defend each other when difficulties arise, and will pick each other up when we fall. I know that my fellow Pirates will support me through my endeavors and I am determined to always “pay it forward” and support my fellow students on their “journey for treasure,” and that is what makes me a proud pirate.

What would you tell a prospective student about ECU?

East Carolina University is a great place to continue your education and to start your own path in life. I see ECU as a school that can fit a variety of personalities. You can find your niche, anything you are looking for. If you look for it, you can find it. East Carolina University is the perfect college for me, and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to one day call myself an “East Carolina alumna” and forever represent the Pirate Nation. East Carolina University is large, but you are destined to find people who you share common interests with and activities and student organizations that will provide you with great life experiences.

What is your favorite ECU memory?

Traveling through Italy, France, Switzerland, and Monaco with a group of hospitality and nutrition students from ECU to study hospitality management was an experience of a lifetime. We went in May and stayed two and a half weeks. We studied in resorts on the ways they manage sustainable energy, sustainable tourism, and everything in their customs and cultures that relates to hospitality. We also studied in restaurants and wineries. I was able to take culinary classes in Italy, which was amazing. It was an amazing experience and something I am so thankful I could be a part of.

Upon graduating, what will you miss most about ECU?

The sense of community and school pride. I will also miss all of my friends, all of the projects in the community I have been a part of, and learning. I learn every day and that will never stop. East Carolina University has already provided me with so many amazing opportunities to grow as an individual and in my field of study. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to travel and study abroad with my fellow Pirates, and all of the experiences that have given me a greater sense of independence and inspiration for my life goals.
