Why did you choose ECU?
My decision to attend ECU was a very easy one. I first considered what ECU had to offer academically, which was the most important factor for me. ECU's allied health programs are some of the best in the state, so I felt very comfortable about that. The next factor was location. ECU was close enough to home that I could visit family and friends, but far enough away so that I could get real life experiences living on my own. ECU was the perfect decision for me!
What would you tell a prospective student about ECU?
East Carolina is the best university ever! It has a lot to offer academically and there are so many other opportunities for you to take advantage of with campus clubs and organizations. Get involved with all that ECU has to offer and your college experience will be even better.
What is something about ECU you wish everyone could experience?
I wish all ECU students had the opportunity to have more interaction with our alumni. Through my work at the ECU Telefund, I have received some great advice from alumni, heard stories about their experiences, and even been educated on how much ECU has grown over the years. The thing I hear most often is to take classes seriously and work hard, but to have fun at the same time. They all say how much they miss ECU and how their years here were some of the best of their lives.
As a future health-care professional, what do you think of the current state of health care in America?
In today’s society, health care reform is imperative. It is obvious to anyone that America needs lower health-care costs and make available better access to quality and efficient care. East Carolina’s Department of Health Services and Information Management is preparing its students for just that—change. In class we have discussed the benefits and flaws with our current health care system. In addition, we also discussed what methods and approaches could give us better results. As a graduating senior, I am confident that I have been prepared to face these challenges and help give North Carolina the best possible solution for moving forward.
