What made you choose ECU?

ECU is much more than just getting through four years of college and receiving a degree. The university has been an integral part of my personal and professional development as an individual. Establishing life-long connections with people who are taking their education to the next level is very important to my growth. Attending the leading nursing college in the state will enable me to accomplish my goal of being a top-notch health care provider. ECU prides itself on service within the community, and what better way to serve the community than by becoming a Pirate Nurse!

What made you choose nursing as your career?

I became interested in nursing when I was in high school. I had a teacher who inspired me. She was a nurse, but she became a teacher because she wanted to teach medical science to high school students. I did very well in the class and thought about exploring nursing as my future career. After getting into ECU, I decided to apply to the nursing program because I heard it was excellent.

Tell me about being a cheerleader at ECU.

I am in my fourth year with the East Carolina Coed Cheerleading Team and my second year as a co-captain. This team has been my second family since I started college. The team is such a great group of hard-working students who also are extremely disciplined athletes. The team does much more than just cheer on the Pirates. They serve in the surrounding community and are role models for young Pirate fans!  I can't express how proud I am to be a cheerleader for the Pirates!

Upon graduating, what will you miss most about ECU?

I will miss the atmosphere on campus and being a part of it! I absolutely love this university and ending my career as a student is going to be tough. However, I want to make my Pirates proud by demonstrating excellence in my career by using the knowledge and experiences I have gained by being a student at East Carolina University.

What would you tell a prospective student about ECU?

I have found that when talking to recent graduates, most of them say, “I wish" a lot. I wish I had been more involved with this club. Or I wish I had studied harder.” This is East Carolina University—a land of opportunity. Use everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, as an opportunity to grow. Every experience in life is a chance to learn something new, and East Carolina provides an endless amount of these experiences.

What would you tell a prospective student about ECU?

ECU is what you make of it during your time here. Get involved in something you are passionate about and give it your all. Not only will you take on an active role within your university, but this will help you meet like-minded people who will end up becoming your best friends.
