What opportunities has ECU afforded you?
This summer I am going to Argentina for a study abroad program. I am going for the first of two sessions offered from May 14–June 22. The program is carried out in Cordoba, a provincial capital in the heart of the country and Spanish 3 and 4 will be taught and I will get university credit for those two classes (6 credits). I will be staying with a host family, and I am nervous because my Spanish-speaking skills are not that great, but I am more excited to immerse myself in the culture and learn the language. I feel it is the best way to learn a language. I will also have the opportunity to learn about the country and its history through a series of weekend trips throughout Argentina.
What are you looking forward to the most?
I’m looking forward to the weekend trips the most. Our first one is a visit to the mountains, where we will stay at an "estancia" (Argentinean ranch) to watch gauchos work, and go to a traditional barbecue ("asado"). I’m also excited to see Buenos Aires, tour the Andes, and see Iguazu falls, the eighth wonder of the world!
What are some of the things you are proud of at ECU?
I am proud of the hard-working teachers who always know my name and are there to help me whenever I need it. I am also proud of all the fans who support ECU sports, and of the the many clubs and organizations that are available to students allowing them to get involved in campus and in the community. I wish everyone could experience a home football game. Tailgating with fellow pirate fans then sitting in the student section and supporting our football team is exciting and lots of fun.
