What made you choose ECU?
I've wanted to attend ECU for many years now. Throughout high school I had a plan to attend Pitt Community College for my first two years and finish my degree at ECU. I know of so many reputable people from home that graduated as a Pirate, and I have grown up knowing that being a Pirate was a very good thing. Everybody knows ECU around here. Everybody respects ECU. Having "East Carolina University" on my degree is something I am going to show proudly when applying for my future career.
Why do you want to become a teacher?
I'm going to teach physical education because it will also afford me the opportunity to coach baseball. It’s been my dream since I first started playing baseball that someday I would help others learn to love the game as much as I do. Playing baseball was a big part of my life for 15 years. I played two years at Pitt Community College, and now I want to learn how to teach others about the game. I want to learn more than just tactics. I want to understand the philosophy of it. I want to be a good coach, so I can help others make their athletic careers as successful as I made mine. I'd like to go back home and teach at my high school because the people there know me. They know that I know baseball. And now to have a degree from ECU on top of that, I think I’ll have a nice career.
Upon graduating, what will you miss most about ECU?
I'll miss being part of something that has such a history. I will be very honored to know that my name will go down in the records of over 100 years of students who wanted to make themselves better. It feels good to be apart of something much bigger than you and then leave to make something big on your on.
Do you have any advice for future Pirates?
Go into this experience knowing that this is the start of what will make you who you are. Working hard in class will give you that much more enjoyment when you succeed in the rest of your life.
