What made you choose ECU?
I wanted to go to Central Florida my whole life, but, when I went to go visit, I hated it. I cried on the tour, and I had no idea what I was going to do because that was the one college I thought that I was going to attend. I started looking around at other schools in Florida because I have a lot of family there, but I didn’t really see anything. My brother is two years older than me and we are really close. He was a freshman at Johnson and Wales in Charlotte at the time. We were dropping him off and my dad suggested that I look at colleges in North Carolina. I looked at other schools, but I didn’t feel that any of them were the right fit for me. My parents and I decided it was time to drive back to Connecticut, and on the way home, our GPS took us the wrong way and we ended up on Highway 264. I saw a sign that said East Carolina University and we stopped. The minute I stepped on campus, I knew I had to be a student at ECU. The campus was beautiful and had a homey feeling. Everyone was dressed in purple or gold with either "ECU" or "Pirates" written across their chest. There was so much school spirit and pride. Every person I came across was especially nice and told me how much they loved it here. I instantly knew I would too.
What is something about ECU you wish everyone could experience?
I wish everyone could experience the campus activities like Barefoot on the Mall, Pirate Palooza, and the Polar Bear Plunge. There are so many activities to choose from, and going is a good way to meet people. There are so many people on campus that you could meet someone new every day.
What would you tell a prospective student at ECU?
East Carolina University is amazing university with a million opportunities. There are over 300 organizations and clubs to be a part of, and you will meet incredible people who will make lasting impressions on you and develop close friendships with. ECU’s school spirit is contagious. Everyone is proud to be a Pirate! I know that coming to ECU is the best decision you will ever make because it was for me!

I'm proud of our school spirit and strong "Pirate Nation." No matter where you go in Greenville, you will see people supporting ECU. Purple and gold is considered proper attire in Greenville. Everyone talks about how wonderful our school spirit is and how friendly we are. People visiting for the first time can never believe how united the university is.
