Pirate Profiles Archive

Our student body shapes our identity and answers the question, What does it mean to be a Pirate? Each student has a unique story, and together they combine to tell the larger story of a university committed to education, leadership, innovation, and quality of life for not only our students, but for faculty, staff, and the residents of eastern North Carolina.

Past Profiles

Spring 2009

Amber

In television news, you can’t wait for a story to come to you. That's why ECU has prepared this Pirate to go and get it.

Taren

Volunteering as a tutor at a local elementary school is benefiting this Pirate both inside and outside of the classroom.

Rich

Rich revels in the freedom he finds at ECU. He calls it “the autonomy that is associated with opportunity,” and he’s making the most of it.

Paulette

Going back to school after 20 years can be a bit scary. But as Paulette proves, it’s never too late to become a Pirate.

Jenna

At East Carolina, students are encouraged to offer new ideas. Sometimes they even change the way the university works.

Chi

For Chi, getting a degree from ECU was so nice, he’s doing it twice. Oh, and he’s upholding Pirate honor on the cardboard battlefield, too.

Rachel

East Carolina’s College of Nursing is so highly regarded because students like Rachel push themselves to be the very best.

Kari

When Kari was here earning her MA in clinical psychology a few years ago, there was no PhD program in her field at ECU. Now she’s back, and she can hardly believe the difference.

Thelma

Intercultural communication is important to this Pirate. So important in fact, that her college career has spanned three continents.
