Our student body shapes our identity and answers the question, What does it mean to be a Pirate? Each student has a unique story, and together they combine to tell the larger story of a university committed to education, leadership, innovation, and quality of life for not only our students, but for faculty, staff, and the residents of eastern North Carolina.

With a motto like “to serve,” our students are expected to volunteer. Founding nonprofit organizations like the Escape Foundation, however, is purely optional.
