The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is ranked sixth in the nation by U.S. News & World Report among medical schools emphasizing primary care. Additionally, the medical school is ranked ninth in rural medicine by the magazine.

Construction continues on the East Carolina Heart Institute, a partnership institution of East Carolina University and University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina. The institute will serve as a center for research, clinical care, and economic development.

East Carolina prepares more nursing and allied health professionals in North Carolina than any other university in the state.

Known internationally for their pioneering work in robotic surgery, surgeons at ECU train physicians from around the world to perform robotic cardiac mitral valve repair procedures.

East Carolina is known internationally for its research and clinical care in the areas of obesity and diabetes. Among ECU’s groundbreaking work is the development of the Greenville gastric bypass, the most commonly performed operation for the control of severe obesity.

ECU Physicians, the medical practice of the Brody School of Medicine, is the largest and most comprehensive medical practice in eastern North Carolina.
