Stretching Muscles and Words with Andrei Codrescu and Claire Porter:
7:15 p.m. - 9 p.m.: Thursday, Nov. 1, Hendrix Theatre, Mendenhall Student Center, $15 public, $20 at door (free for conference attendees)
Andrei Codrescu is a prolific poet, novelist, essayist, screenwriter, and celebrated commentator for National Public Radio. He left his Romanian homeland in 1965 to escape from the communist regime and emigrated to the US. The editor of Exquisite Corpse, an online literary journal and the MacCurdy Distinguished Professor of English at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Codrescu is described as “brilliant, insightful, and seductive.” He offers a distinctly witty and wry perspective of American culture.
Confronting the world of the normal and taking it careening into the absurd, funny, and touching, Claire Porter, actress, writer and dancer, will perform a series of seriously silly short solos. "Mistress of the short, sharp character portrait, she is nimble and witty, always delightful, and often wickedly funny."
