EXCELLENCE AND ORIGINALITY
Faculty recognized for efforts in research, creative activity

Four East Carolina University faculty members received Achievement for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity awards this month. The awards recognize originality and excellence in research and creative activities as evidenced by sustained high quality work at the university.

Walter J. Pories, professor of surgery at the Brody School of Medicine, and Jamie Brown Kruse, professor of economics in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, received lifetime achievement awards.

Craig E. Landry, associate professor of economics in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, and Guili Zhang, assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education, received five-year achievement awards. These recipients are recognized for their achievements during five years of continuous service at ECU.

Dr. Deirdre Mageean, vice chancellor for research and graduate studies, selected the awardees upon recommendation by the Faculty Senate Academic Awards Committee. All recipients were nominated by their peers.

Pories, 82, is a professor of surgery, biochemistry and sport and exercise science at ECU. He joined ECU in 1977 as chair of the Department of Surgery at the university’s medical school, which had just begun its four-year program. Read more...
