An evening of song and satire with Kinky Friedman:
8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, Wright Auditorium, $15/$20 at door (free for conference attendees)
When his tongue-in-cheek country band, "Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys," broke up in the 1970s, the upstart, irrepressible, cigar-smoking, free-thinking musician parlayed his knack for social satire into literary success writing mystery novels about a Greenwich Village private eye. Twenty-five novels later, with legions of reading fans worldwide, Friedman grabbed national headlines with a zealous campaign as a Texas gubernatorial candidate in 2006. “He’s definitely an acquired taste, and the Kinkster may not be for everyone, but that’s a large part of his charm.”
