The University Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 4, 2012 in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The ceremony begins with a processional at 9:00 a.m. Graduates should check in at Gate 2 under the south stands at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium by no later than 8:30 am to line up for the processional.

McRae to deliver spring commencement

An East Carolina University graduate who has committed more than 35 years to improving healthcare in eastern North Carolina will deliver the keynote address at the university, spring commencement.

Vidant Health Chief Executive Officer Dave McRae will speak May 4 during the ceremony, which begins with a processional at 9 a.m. in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

Alumni Association announces Robert H. Wright Award recipients

Five East Carolina University graduating seniors were selected for the Robert H. Wright Alumni Leadership Award, the most prestigious award presented to seniors during annual commencement exercises.

Recipients are Benjamin Joel Aydelette of Greensboro, a psychology major and biology minor with pre-medical concentration; Megan Christine Campbell of Fayetteville, a double major in biochemistry and chemistry; Courtney Blake Evans of Greenville, a nursing major; Brooke Tierra Leigh of Washington, N.C., a chemistry major; and Justin Mark Salisbury of Willington, Conn., a mathematics major and economics minor. Teaching strategies enable students to thrive

High expectations are the key to effective teaching, said Ravi Paul, a management information systems professor in the East Carolina University College of Business.

"I set a high bar of standards for my students," he said. "Challenging students is what enables them to thrive."

Paul is the 2012 recipient of the University of North Carolina Board of Governers Award for Excellence in teaching, one of 17 outstanding faculty members in the UNC system selected for the annual award. He received a commemorative medallion and a $75,000 cash prize for his excellence in teaching. Read more...

Family members, friends, and guests are not required to have tickets for admission to the Commencement Ceremony. There is no limit on the number of guests who can be invited.

General parking will be provided in the lots surrounding the stadium.
