2011 Archives	December 2011 Ranked #1 for affordability The US News and World Report named the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University as the nation's least expensive public medical school for in-state students, and among the top ten least expensive medical schools for out-of-state students. The article said that the annual cost of attending the Brody School of Medicine is approximately $11,554, about $15,000 less than the national average. Telemedicine at dental school East Carolina University will share in more than $1.5 million North Carolina is receiving from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to improve access to health care and educational services in rural communities. Read more... Hop, skip and jump East Carolina University student and world-class jumper Chelsea Guild led a jump rope clinic for children aged 5 to 12 Dec. 2 at the Student Recreation Center. Students learned basic jumps, single and double rope tricks and other jump rope games. Guild is senior captain of the Bouncing Bulldogs Jump Role team, which holds six national championships. She is a two-time member of the USA Jump Rope Team, a gold and silver medalist at a number of global competitions, and a teacher/performer on five different continents. Read more... 	November 2011 ECU School of Art and Design Holiday Sale Unique holiday gifts handmade by ECU art students will be on sale at the 2011 School of Art and Design Holiday Exhibition and Sale, Dec. 1 - 3 at the Wellington B. Gray Gallery, Jenkins Fine Arts Building. Sale items will include handmade ceramics, jewelry, scarves, woodwork, prints, painting, mugs, bowls, sculptures and more. 	October 2011 Makuck poetry reading Peter Makuck, distinguished professor emeritus at ECU, returns to campus Nov. 1 for a poetry reading and discussion of uses of nature in writing poetry.. Read more… Poverty simulation ECU's Volunteer and Service-Learning Center will hold a poverty simulation from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in Mendenhall Student Center, with pre-registration required. The simulation provides participants the chance to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget, trying to provide for the household. Read more... September 2011 State employees urged to give The 2011 State Employees Combined Campaign gets under way Oct. 3. ECU's goal this year is a 5 percent increase in participation. The SECC was created by former Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. in 1984 as the only authorized fundraising campaign permitted in the state workplace. It provides a uniform process for state employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Read more about the campaign. U.S. Marine Band 'The President's Own' ECU will welcome the U.S. Marine Band in concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 3 at Wright Auditorium. The Marine Band is America's oldest professional musical organization, established in 1798 by an act of Congress. Free admission, with four tickets per person limit. Read more...
