Police Seek Accreditation

The ECU Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of the department’s effort to achieve national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

A public information session will be held 5 p.m. on Dec. 11 in Mendenhall 244. Police department employees and community members are invited to offer comments at the session, or by calling 737-1580 on Dec. 11 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Comments in both venues are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department’s ability to comply with the CALEA standards. Written comments may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Va. 22030-2215.

The program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
