ECU’s Office of Academic Outreach hosted the second annual Teaching with Technology 2006: A Think-In of Best Practices on Nov. 9, featuring laptop poster presentations by 42 faculty members from ECU and area community colleges.
Presentations in three tracks – the social use of technology, effective/efficient use of technology and innovative use of technology – included such topics as online communities, discussion boards, collaborative learning environments, podcasting and tips for streamlining the distance education experience.
Think-In attendees evaluated the presentations and a winner was selected from each track. Winners were: Leonard Trujillo (Allied Health) and Tara Jeffs (Education) for “That Human Touch – Learning New Skills through Web Based Tutorials; Education faculty Katherine O’Connor, Terry Atkinson, Sue Steinweg and Courtney Maness for “Using Open Journal Systems (OJS): Creating a Peer Reviewed Online Journal” and John Kros (Business) for “The Design and Use of Multimedia Modules for Teaching Business Modeling and Problem Solving.”
The following departments had poster sessions: Academic Outreach, Division of Continuing Studies, Information Technology and Computing Services, Joyner Library, and the New Faculty Orientation Program.
