SUNDIAL DEDICATED: Dr. John Meredith, clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Brody School of Medicine, led a city committee that built a sundial on the Greenville Town Common to recognize the millennium. Hurricane Floyd and its flooding delayed the project, but officials dedicated the sundial Dec. 15. Meredith estimated the project cost about $50,000. Greenville Granite and Marble and building firm C.A. Lewis did the bulk of the work on the project, grading a spot on the west end of the park and installing stone bollards and a low wall where historically important events can be inscribed later, Meredith said. The sundial is titled, “Time is a Destination.” Carl Billingsley (Art) also served on the committee. (Photo by Cliff Hollis)
