Japan Center East Programs to Focus on Work and Play

Work and play is the theme for the Japan Center East’s springtime event.

On April 4, a presentation on employment abroad and a participatory Bon Odori dance will be offered at the Murphy Center on campus.

The 3:30 p.m., “Work In Japan” presentation will feature Scott Ralls, president of Craven Community College and former director of the North Carolina Division of Employment and Training, who will discuss working for Japanese companies in eastern North Carolina, and working as an employee at a company or school in Japan. The 90-minute seminar will also outline requirements, expectations, advantages and disadvantages of working abroad. Information about teaching jobs in Japan will also be available. A meal of Japanese cuisine will follow.

The seminar will be followed by an evening of traditional Japanese Bon Odori dance. Attendants are invited to participate in the 500-year old festival dance at the Murphy Center from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission for the seminar and meal is $15; for the dance only: $8. Admission for both events, including food, is $20. Registration deadline is March 29.
